Applied ICT (Information Communications Technology)

The ICT department offers two courses, single award and double award. The two courses are described below.

Be able to select and use appropriate ICT tools and techniques to help you carry out investigations; capture and handle data; solve problems; make decisions; present and communicate information

Increase your awareness of the benefits and drawbacks of ICT and its impact on the way people live their lives

Learn how to plan and manage projects and work effectively with others

What will I study?

Applied AS Units

Unit 1 - The Information Age (e-portfolio)
Unit 2 - The Digital Economy (e-portfolio)
Unit 3 - The Knowledge Worker (practical assessment)

Applied A2 Units

Unit 7 - Using Database Software (practical assessment)
Unit 8 - Managing ICT projects (portfolio)
Unit 10 - Using Multimedia Software (portfolio)

How will I study?

Through a mixture of teacher-led activities, individual research, case studies, theory work and practical sessions.

What do I need to start the course?

While it is anticipated that you will have studied the National Curriculum in ICT to KS3, a GCSE in ICT is not compulsory.  However, it is essential that you have a basic knowledge of ICT, a working knowledge of Microsoft Office 2000. At least a grade C in GCSE Mathematics and English is required.
