Why study Drama & Theatre Studies?
If you enjoy reading plays, going to the theatre, writing about drama as much as participating in it, you will enjoy this course. Whether you want to perform in productions, direct or design you need to be a good team worker and have the confidence to experiment independently with your ideas.
What will I study?
AS Level Units
Unit 1: Live Production Seen and Prescribed Play
60% of total AS marks, 30% of total A level marks
Written Paper, 1 hour 30 minutes ( marked externally )
- Section A-response to live theatre seen during the course
- Section B-study of Oh What a Lovely War by Joan Littlewood
Unit 2: Presentation of an Extract from a play
Practical ( Internally marked-externally moderated )
40% of total AS marks 20% of total A level marks
Group performance of an extract from a published play
Preparatory and development supporting notes

A2 level Units
Unit 3: The study of two Further Prescribed plays
Written Paper 2 hours ( marked externally )
Unit 4: Presentation of Devised Drama
Practical ( Internally marked –externally moderated )
A group performance of devised drama choosing from
Directing
Acting
Designing of set/costume/mask/lighting/sound
How will I study?
The lessons will be a mixture of teacher-led activity, workshops and presentations. Regular theatre visits are an obligatory part of the course. Compulsory after-school rehearsals are a feature of this course and students need to offer this commitment.
What do I need to start the course?
Drama GCSE at Grade B or above is required. Grade B in GCSE English is also required. You will need to be available to attend an audition during induction week. This will consist of a short learned speech from a published play of your own choice.
